The Owl's Nest is the oldest book store in Calgary and therefore, we have a connection and responsibility to the First and new Nations who call this place home.
With reverence and respect, acknowledgement is owed to the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy:
Siksika/Blackfoot
Akáínaa (Many Chiefs)/Kainai/Blood Tribe
Aápatohsipikani (Northern Piikani)/Peigan
Aamsskáápipikani (Southern Piikani)/Blackfeet
Signed on September 22, 1877, we are also located within the boundaries of the Treaty 7 Nations. In addition to the Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy) treaty signatories include the First Nations of the Îyâxe (Stoney)/Mountain Nakoda, the Îyethka speaking peoples: Goodstoney, Chiniki & Bearspaw; and the Tsuut'ina Nation.
We also recognize the connection and autonomy of the Metis Nation Region 3 within the Northwest Métis Homeland.
We are intent on learning and un-learning Canada's history while we create the space for diverse voices and stories of Indigenous Peoples within our nest.
As we learn more, we will do more.
